Scouting in Lewisham – Development

Welcome to the Lewisham Scouts Development page. Here you will see news and updates of all that is happening in Scouting in the London Borough of Lewisham. Share and pick up ideas of what is new in the world of Group development.

Do you have a new idea to share about how to make your sections grow? Why not let everyone know what you did to recruit adults and young members. Reports of recruitment and development ideas and events will be published on these pages.

What’s new?

In December 2012, we revised the list of adult requirements in Lewisham and added a new category. We now have an “urgent” section to help us all focus upon the need to recruit adults in Groups right now. Recruitment of adults is and will remain the responsibility of the GSL of course, but there is a recognition that we can assist with general recruitment. A general advert for all adult leader appointments has therefore been sent to the Volunteer Centre. This will be published in the local and national volunteer advertising pages during the early part of January. We have identified there are fourteen adults needed urgently in various Groups across the borough and we plan to work with those Groups to fill every one of those places as soon as possible.

We would still like all Groups register with the Volunteer Centre by completing a simple form which can be found at;

http://www.volunteercentrelewisham.org.uk/register_your_organisation_pt1.php.

The form for advertising specific roles can be found on this website under “downloads” then “useful forms”. Please contact the Volunteer centre direct for further information, but the development officer can assist you with the contents of the form.

Note: The classification of urgent is where adults have been lost from a section or the Group (mostly due to unexpected circumstances) and there is a real threat of closure or existing leaders in the Group are covering other roles to prevent closure.

Lewisham People’s Day:Saturday 13th July 2013

After an absence in 2012 due to the Olympics, People’s Day is back for 2013.  As yet a date has not been fixed, but the event will take place in July – This is our opportunity to get involved with the recruiting adults and children and to show off some of those Scouting skills.

People’s day takes place in Mountsfield Park and people attend the event from all over the Borough and beyond.  An estimated 35,000 people went to the event in 2011.

I will be attending again to run a recruitment and information stand.

This is your big chance to get involved in recruiting adults, young members and bring Scouting to the wider audience.

As soon as I know more about the organisation and date, I will let you know.

On these pages you will find useful information about developing your scout group, as well as downloadable resources.
