St George visits our District Camp

16 May 2013

Lewisham District were honoured to be visited by a special guest at their Scouts Own at the recent District Camp – St George himself! Happy to underline the similarities between the promise and laws of the Scout Association and those of the Knights of Chivalry, St George was happy to lead a renewal of promises ceremony. He was also amazed at the sight of nearly 250 adults and young people in scout uniform with such a variety of scarf colours.

Overall, the camp went off very well and we were blessed with lovely weather. Some nine groups from all over Lewisham camped for the weekend and we had a large number of Beaver visitors on the Saturday. Everyone enjoyed the activities including an open-air disco; a scout challenge competition; a campfire; the scouts own and a fire-lighting “master-class”. The Cubs were also lucky to be able to complete their Athletes Activity badge over the weekend, with some also achieving the Athletes Plus badge.

We are all looking forward to the next District Camp in May 2015 – why not put it in your diary now?
